Islamabad came to life on Saturday evening on the combined screening of American Film Showcase & 60 Second Int’l Film Festival at Aiwan-i-Quaid auditorium on 23rd May, 2015. The event was kicked off by Jamal Shah’s speech, the director of Hunerkada College of Visual & Performing Arts, after which he introduced Richard Olson, the ambassador of United States to Pakistan, to the audience.
The US Ambassador, Richard Olson, spoke at the opening & emphasized on the importance of such events and said, “Beyond sharing information about our societies, the entertainment industries of both our countries mean real dollars and cents for our respective economies. To compete in the global entertainment market, a strong foundation of filmmakers and experts is a necessity. The American Film Showcase will have a lasting and positive impact on Pakistan’s economy & cultural heritage.”
After his address, Richard Olson, Jamal Shah, Andy Merkin, a filmmaking expert, Martha Mitchell, an American filmmaker & producer and Abrar ul Hassan, the festival director of 60 Second Int’l Film Festival, posed for a group photograph.
The screening, then began, and ‘Listening Is An Act of Love’, an inspiring animated feature, was screened before the audience, followed by the screening of ‘The Science of Character’. Both of the films were inspiring and motivating. Ten 60 second films of the 60 Second International Film Festival were then screened & their makers were given awards and certificates by Andy and Martha. This was followed by the screening of the final film of the evening, ‘The Crash Reel’. The attendees were absolutely inspired after watching all the wonderful films, thus the whole event was fueled by their enthusiasm and passion.
Afterwards, a Q & A session by Andy Merkin & Martha Mitchell took place. Both of them were delighted to see so many people interested in the art of filmmaking & encouraged them to do great work. The young lot kept asking different questions related to filmmaking with zest and zeal, and both the experts kept answering them with equal compassion. This session proved to be a great source of knowledge for both the amateur & aspiring filmmakers.
Cafe 60 kept providing culinary delights to the attendees of the event side-by-side of the screening. Once the session ended all the guests were led toward the refreshment side, where they were served with delicious snacks. Here are some photographs of the event:-
